Monday sports story following an opening day loss by the Browns.

 AP Sports:

Browns traded away their entire roster during the summer except for Baker Mayfield who bravely took the field alone on opening day. The game did not go well for the Cleveland Brown who was thoroughly trounced. Owner Haslam was quite irate about the lopsided loss and blamed it on his QB for being less than an adult.

Mayfield who was playing with a torn ACL, two broken arms, and a partially severed head said he will be out there next Sunday and has to do better. 

Haslam said he is not going to trade Baker regardless and no, he doesn’t need more players but needs to grow up.

2022 Winter Fest/Winter Cookout

 

My phone has been ringing, messages through Messenger arriving daily

Carey is the Winter Cookout/Freeze Fest still happening?

I have been hosting this annual event for over 20 years the last Saturday in February.

Only twice in all that time it has been cancelled. Once in 2020 when I was deadly sick and one other time back in 2004 I believe it was.

Some friends who were a big part of it are no longer with us, Jamie and George, Sad! Others well age has gotten to them, 20 plus years people do age.

Anyway… this Saturday unfortunately I have to work.

I am thinking of hosting it the following Saturday.

Place still undecided, because of covid our freedoms have waned so maybe it will be held at my house again like last year.

Clean those gutters

Today I used my roof rake and cleared out one side of the gutters.

I poured pots of boiling water to open the downspouts.

With the warm-up, rain, and then another heavy round of snow could be a disaster in the making.

And icicles, I know they make a house look like a Hallmark card, but they are heavy and dangerous, knock them down but don't look up, one could impale your eye, and then you would have an icy stare.

Dollar General Heist

 A few years back at the Dollar General in Euclid, you may recall when I reported how I saw a woman stuffing her face and purse in the candy aisle. I stopped her midafternoon snack in its tracks. She was not happy, and neither was today's backpack packer.

Today I bring you - 

                                            Dollar General Caper Part Two

I usually shop at the DG by my house in Wickliffe, but since I was close to the one in Willowick, I decided to stop there.

I enter, and as I do, a young woman scampers out with two over bulging backpacks, the alarms sounds, the cashier has her mouth open, and I report I think she just walked out without paying? The cashier says, yes, I am calling the cops now.

Not wanting to see my town turn into episodes of the streets of San Francisco I told the lady I am on it.

I follow the panicked freeloader into the lot. Just like a nervous mouse, she dodged in and out of cars while yelling something at me which I needed an Ebonics translater to help me decipher the muffled sentences laced with F's and U's.

I  get on my  flip phone, call the cop shop and tell them about this scenario that is being played out.

The dispatcher said we have cars arriving, but where is she at?

We are now on the side of the store, we are now in the back of the store, she now tossed the backpacks by the dumpster... a live play by play any sports announcer would be proud of.

Two patrol cars storm in with sirens blaring and nab the Grinch who stole from Dollar General.

I went back to DG to do my shopping. I was checking out when the cashier and two customers thanked me. I replied I am tired of this. We need to protect our country. 

On the other register was the patrolman who apprehended the no gooder unpacking the backpack.

I never knew you could fit that many pairs of sock in a backpack? 20, 30, all I know there was a lot.

Was this the modern day little old woman who lived in a shoe and had so many children she didn't know how to sock? Was she going to go around hanging socks from everyone's chimney? 

We will never know, but maybe while in jail she can knit socks to keep herself occupied. And just perhaps, maybe someday, Dollar General will have my photo hanging up as Customer of the Month.

A moment at an Aldi's parking lot

 A moment at an Aldi's parking lot So there I was pushing my cart full of groceries to my van when a lady asked me if you had to pay for the carts. I said, you do, but you can have mine right after I am done loading my groceries into the boxes. I never purchase bags. She asked if I wanted a hand I replied, sure but I want them placed in the box in alphabetical order. She got stumped in a hurry when she saw the steak. OH BOY! I read her mind immediately. Would this go next to B for Beef or S for steak? I said OH, I was only kidding. My groceries were loaded in my van quickly. She got her cart quarter free and thanked me repeatedly. Mike Trivisonno, of WTAM 1100 Cleveland's Newsradio

 I am really shocked and saddened

Mike Trivisonno, of WTAM 1100 Cleveland's Newsradio, dies at the age of 74.

Many people helped pave my path but Mike was instrumental in getting me started with politics and protesting the city and gov.

His march on city hall to bring back the Browns and protesting PSL's is where I got started.

Mike was a great man. I didn't agree with him 100% but I started listening to him way back in the early 90's when he was on FM talking Browns and sports.

He spoke like an average person with the same concerns as you and I.

Trivisonno is a Cleveland legend never to be replaced.

Wickliffe's Tornado

 To my out of town friends and connections who may not be aware

A tornado briefly touched down last Wednesday in the Geranium City Wickliffe that I reside in, about 5 streets from my house

The storm/tornado moved in quickly and was over quickly

In fact I was out driving around in the area and wasn’t even aware of the tornado

It briefly got dark, windy, rained hard and then it was over

The tornado destroyed one house, toppled trees and our electricity was out from when the storm hit at 4 pm till 5 am the next morning and our internet was down until late Sunday
