Been busy the last few days

Hey Gang,
Been busy the last few days cleaning up the old Big Lots in Wickliffe getting it ready for the antique/crafts and collectible co-op called Antiques & Uniques. Tom and Barb the owners are setting up a top notch operation. When I was contracted to do the floor I thought OK clean up, set up booths and be done. Nope, they have gutted the place and are rebuilding it. Wow. Stop out if you want to take a peak before the opening. They still have some spaces available for vendors. I think this is going to be a success for Wickliffe.

This past Saturday went to Chardon to find a spot for me to stand and sell my book at the Chardon Maple Festival, that didn't go so well but what did was our visit to the Chardon Lyric Theater on Water St., playing was Anne Frank. John wanted to see it and Ruth had no clue about it. I myself wasn't keen on watching it as it is so sad. I read the book when in school and saw the movie many years ago. It is something all should see but doesn't make for a pleasant evening, at least not for me.
These are the notes I posted on Facebook.
Haunted tonight. As I told the actor who played Otto, Tonight was a very unsatisfying/satisfying night. You did a great job but you moved me almost to the point of tears. Well done. He replied yes I understand what you mean, mixed emotions.
I recommend it, especially for my socialist liberal friends.
It was very well acted. There has to be a special place in hell for those Nazi's.

Sunday – friends were curious how my book signing went at the craft show in Streetsboro. I made PEANUTS and I learned a lot. This was the first show I set up at and learned the lesson of asking about advertising, how many vendors will be there, what will they sell but the most important question where did you advertise. I asked one vendor didn't they advertise? Her reply was they put it on Facebook. WHAT! I am not kidding when I say 10 people came in. 10!
All the vendors sat in their booth or walked around visiting other vendors. Some had a lot of effort in setting up their booth. It was so dead the last half hour I went to my car and slept. What did I miss when I went back in – nothing, the vendors were packing.
So I made peanuts, literally. I swapped one book for two bags of peanuts from another vendor. At least I made peanuts.

Checking in with everyone

Hey Gang,
Checking in with everyone to tell you aliens and the pc police didn't get me, at least not yet.  Some of you are on both of my lists, political and personal so you know whats been happening, for those who are on just one list...

I went back doing what I use to do, I opened a booth along with Joe at the http://www.craftandantique.com/, hoping to finally liquidate the stuff I have had in storage since the mid 90's when I ran an antique shop.  I need the space, could use a few extra bucks and tired of feeding the mice.  BOY OH BOY did they do damage.  Chewed old clothes, I had some from the 40's still with the tags on them, old mags, books, toys they did real damage..

The other thing I have been spending time on is my cleaning business, making a simple website and a flyer for it.  This is what I have so far.  http://janitorialservicescleveland.com/

And keeping busy being Chairman for Lake County of the Constitution Party of Ohio.  I was just interviewed on an internet radio station.  Its a challenge.

Of course did a few day trips and fun events.  Ruth, Paul and I went to Indian Point the last nice sunny fall day to see leaves, we went all the way out past Medina to hear a lecture on Saturn at some small country park in the middle of no where.  A few trips to Deerfield Circle Antique Mall where I have a shelf set up, Kinuza Dam in Pa. and a really fascinating experience at the historic St. Stephens Church in Cleveland to hear a talk on the stigmata.  It still has me thinking.  Soon I will try to organize an outing to see some of these gorgeous churches.  I better hurry as so many are closing down.

Finally, this Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, in case you couldn't figure it out.... I have a group outing planned to Amish country to see a live nativity parade in Berlin, Ohio and do some shopping.  Anyone care to go email back so I can give details.  Should be a swell time.

Carey’s Treasure Filled Weekend

Hey Gang,
What an interesting weekend of finding treasures.

Saturday I went to the auction and arrived at my usual time of 10 pm.  This auction starts at 6 and has been known to go into the wee hours of the night.  One time it lasted till 4:30 am.  They stay until all items are gone or people stop buying.

Unfortunately this time I bought only one small box of junk for $1.00 before they said thanks for coming.  But there were a few things of merit in the small pile, scroll saw blades, an old lamp and a few other things.  I think I can make my buck back.

Before leaving I went to take a look at the unsold items and looked in a box of old car parts.  A gentleman came up to me and said I bought the box, took what I wanted and leaving it, you want it take it, the parts are for a 55 Ford.  I asked twice to make sure it was free.  I said I feel like I am steeling it.  He assured me I wasn’t so I loaded up the box.

On the way home I went to Annabelle’s Dinner to see who was left from the cruise in.  John and Tom were still hanging out so I told them about the free box of parts.  We went through it and found an old Ford Wonder Bar radio.  I was informed by Tom it was worth $200 or more.  I searched online and sure enough it’s worth that.

Then on Sunday I was going through box after box of OLD stuff I had pack ratted away from years of collecting and when I ran an antique shop back in the mid 90’s.  The mice did quite a job of chewing and I lost hundreds of dollars.  Old TV guides from the ‘50’s chewed, old books, clothes from the early 1900’s chewed.

In one box I pulled out a 1950’s box camera called the Rocket Camera.  I went to open it and noticed it had film.  I quickly closed it.  So today will be heading to the camera shop to see if they can develop what’s in there.  Anxious to find out.

OH the reason I am cleaning out the garage.

This coming Thursday through Sunday? will be having a garage sale.  Mom is also clearing out some very nice old items.  It’s not your typical garage sale.  If you’re local come on out.

Pass on the word for me.  If I can will post some photos.
