Where's Carey now?

Hey Gang
Well I embarked on short 3 day trip with Walt & Jimmy to Dayton for a dance recital and museums. I wasn't feeling the best so wasn't to keen on going but doping myself up with loads of green tea, vitamin C, hot foods and Nyquil had me feeling just a bit short of OK. So I packed and we left Friday at 6pm, and yes I was ready, zero wait time for Walt & Jimmy.
The ride down was uneventful. We stoped somewhere in Ashalnd at a place called Der Dutchman. Corporate Amish food, but it was good.
Our rooms are nice but I had something extra they didn't. Ants. I left the shot glass of Nyquil on the desk where the ants were and now they are gone. Besides the flu bug does it chase away ants also?
2 in a row for Carey! I woke on time for once for breakfast, 9:30. It was amazing seeing I didn't sleep sound.  The room above me either has a dance troupe staying there or someone with elephant feet - BAM BAM BAM.

Then we were off to Wright Patterson Airforce museum at 10. Even if you don't like flying or planes it is a must see. A very impressive display of planes, all the wars since the advent of the plane and other artifacts.
We took a lunch break in the cafe in the museum.  I was telling Walt I haven't been here since about 20 years ago. The next table over an elderly volunteer sat down. I had to ask him how long has he worked here since I was wondering how much it has changed the last time I was here 20 years ago. His name was Bob and he replied 20 years.    Nice!  The answer I got was yes it has changed a lot, much has been added.
Bob served in Vietnam during the French Indochina friction and was trying to stop Vietnam from happening.
Before I got started on a long conversation Walt cut it short and said lets go. I thanked Bob for his service and left.
On to Yellow springs and Clifton Gorge. I have been there twice before but I had to show Walt & Jimmy. They were impressed.

I will leave this part out, buy my book to find out.

From our short hike onto to dinner at the Clifton Mill.  I wasn't hungry so skipped the meal but enjoyed just sitting relaxing.  Then to the opera house.  Our waitress told us they play nothing but old people music.  Who cares.  I wasn't sure if we would even stay I wanted to look inside the opera house because each time I was in the village it was closed.  Luck had it where it was open.

Stay tuned for whats inside the opera house.

Cook Forest part 2

The park chaplain came by this morning to invite us to Sunday service in the park and we got to talking about the Rangers that stopped last night and the Bus. The guy in the next site heard us and came over. He said I'm a lawyer and when I saw the rangers talking to you and looking inside your vehicle last night I thought to myself this guy needs a lawyer but when they left I stayed put, now I know what happened.

The part of Cook Forest we are at is nice and the old growth pines are of incredible height and the smell is so wonderful. There are also plenty of trails from easy to difficult but no real breathtaking vistas or scenery. One beautiful overlook was Seneca Point and the view from the fire tower we climbed was also beautiful. Both of these are across from Ridge Campground where we stayed.

The fire tower was crazy, it seemed to sway. It was put out of service years ago and shows. The height wasn't listed but the sign said it looks over the 130 foot tall pines. I found out later the height is 80 feet. A mother and her young daughter, maybe 8, started to climb it. The lady chickened out so the husband took the daughter and their even younger son, maybe 4, up. She told us I am a very protective mother but I can't look. I am thinking neither one would win parent of the year award. The steps are open and so easy for a kid to slip through. They were from Eastlake which is a city over from where I live, maybe that has something to do with it.

The trail we hiked was the Longfellow Trail. Only 1.2 miles. Some of the white pines on this trail are over 400 years old and some are the tallest in the Northeastern US at 150 feet, one is 183 feet.

But believe it or not most of the excitement centered around the GoGo Bus and meeting people. Nick started keeping count how many came up to us but quickly stopped. At one store we pulled in I was waiting for this lady to back out so I could grab her spot. She starts backing up, stops in the middle of the parking lot, gets out with her friend and both take pictures and then zoom off. How could I yell at them Another couple we met at Mac Beths convenience store ran into us again on a trail and said hey its the purple bus people. And of course at the campground, I think just about everyone had to peak at it.

In the morning church and then a slow cruise back, maybe the Tionesta area or the Canfield, Ohio fair. Hard to believe we are at the end of the summer vacation season, it seems like it just got here.

That's all for now.

Lost in the shuffle

Hey Gang,
Fiiiiinally getting back to the weekend trip with Dov and Lisa we took a few weeks ago. What you didn't know I escaped? Well you should be checking on the message board and you would of.
I can and will be writing about where we went and what we did but I want to start with something more important first, some of the fine people we met while on our excursion. After all, life is all about people, ain't it?
Their names were Bob & Linda, our heaven sent angels, Ron, who dropped in on our Sunday supper, and Jason Keeler I met outside of Covered Bridge Pizza in Kingsville, Ohio. There was other friendly people on the trip, the gas station attendant, who actually still pumps gas, the greeters at the camp ground, and the toll both lady.

But I'm running late to pick up tickets for McCains visit so guess what? You still have to wait, sorry I'll try to hurry back.
Gotta GoGo!!
