Strange Incident at Winter Cookout/Freezefest 2014

Strange Incident at Winter Cookout/Freezefest 2014

I was in the shelter house enjoying the fire when I received a call from Jeff saying I am almost there, pulling in now.

The shelter house has two entrances.  There is the long narrow paved path leading from the main parking lot and another shorter entrance off Buttermilk Falls Pkwy that is just for unloading but most people park there anyway.  As I was talking to Jeff I walked out to meet him at the drop off entrance.  A car was pulling in so I walked towards it.  I was waving my flashlight thinking it was Jeff when the car stopped then backed upped quite quickly and bam hit something.  I walked briskly towards the car waving my flashlight and yelling whoa – stop, I was feeling bad for Jeff.  The car then pulled forward and backed up once more and again BAM hit something.  The car pulled forward and sounds of dragging could be heard.  I ran up to the car which I then noticed it wasn’t Jeff but thought it may be another friend so I put my face up to the driver’s window knocking on it.

The window came down but it was no one I knew so I jumped back.  There were two males in the car.  The driver maybe mid to late 40’s the other appeared younger.  Both had looks of shock on their face but their actions were stoic.  I said dude are you OK, you just hit a pole.  I went to look at the back of their car and it was messed up badly.  I then returned to their car and said your car is tore up dude.  The driver said its OK stepped on the gas, went forward, backed up then zoomed off.

After they sped away I went back to look at the pole with Nick.  The wooden entrance pole had a corner shaved off, the metal entrance sign was bent and lying in the snow was part of their cars bumper.

My mind raced with what was that all about???  Were they drunk, doped up with illegal drugs in the car, were they meeting for queer sex?  Then I thought if these two were up to no good was my walking towards them talking on the phone and waving a flashlight have been their reason for panicking and driving reckless?

Strange!

Early reviews of my upcoming book.

Hi, Carey -

I'm happy to say that I love your style and these great vignettes! :-))

1) Your website or presence could blow up and everyone will want your book or 2) Another book or writing of yours could blow up and, by way of that, everyone will want to read this book! I believe in hard work, taking chances and the wonderful blessings of God! And, I like your stories.

Andrea

Good Morning Carey,

An update pertaining to your body of work.

As I shared I was in a bad accident this past summer and shattered my right arm.  I am still behind in all of my book contracts and cannot take on another project in the foreseeable future. Your work is entertaining and anecdotal in a sort of "Readers Digest" style. I would recommend that you compile volumes of these stories into groups that come out to at least 100 page books and print.

Super Bowl Thoughts

Well one word      Tee EEE BOW - TEBOW

The decision to cut Tebow has the final say.  Where will Denver turn to find a QB?  Weeden is available.

Judging the game vs. the commercials Tebow had a far better performance than Manning.

What does the NFL mean to Peyton Manning?  Neck Feeling Lousy

The headlines should read SNAP - CRACKLE & POP - FLOP.
Snap for the horrible first snap, crackle for Mannings neck, pop for the hits put on by Seatle and flop for how Denver played.

The slaughter was so bad and Denver took such a beating I thought Mel Gibson wrote the script for this game.

Fact Finding Mission - the unscientific conclusion

Hey Gang,
Well we made it to Niagara and the falls weren’t frozen.  Boo Hoo!

The day of our departure a snow storm blew through dumping at least a 30 inch snowdrift in my drive and I thought momentarily maybe I was nuts for attempting a drive in this weather.  Janet even called and requested I pick her up because the roads were that bad.  I said no problem and drove out to get her.  That was the worst of it.  Apart from a few sections of 90 that were near white out conditions the roads were not that bad.  To me it was just a typical winter day, no big deal.

Even the weather, it was cold but nothing close to the Arctic conditions we had been experiencing.  By the Falls though it was horrible.  We had dressed for the weather but some of the tourists especially the ones from the tour buses didn’t.  It was funny watching them especially the males walking macho and then a few minutes standing by the falls they started jumping around or holding their ears.

The view on the American side is really not the best in cold weather.  The top of the Falls were free flowing but most everything else was snow and ice covered so you don’t see much.  You need to see the Falls from Canada in the winter.   I grumbled and would love to throw over the Falls our gov who stopped us from crossing over into Canada without a passport.  Those rats!

And you heard me complain before about the plight of Niagara, US.  There was nothing open.  Even the mall by the falls with tour buses driving up constantly was closed.  Across the border it was all lit even the Ferris wheel was spinning.  Hey at least we got to see one of the 7 Wonders.

Driving home we drove through Buffalo and it did look way more lively than Cleveland.  Could Buffalo have surpassed Cleveland?

An eating tip.... You must try Zaiqa Halal a traditional Pakistani Restaurant on Delaware Ave in Buffalo.  WOW is the food good with a large variety buffet.  Some of it is incredibly hot and spicy but oh so good.  Its almost worth the long drive just to eat there.  In fact, I'm hungry, anyone in for a road trip??

 Gotta GoGo,
  Carey

PS: OH have to add this.  So we were driving through NY about a 150 miles away and what did I see?  Is that Joe’s car???  Sure enough I pass my good friend Joe who lives in Euclid which is next to Wickliffe where I live.  Joe was on his way to a business appointment when we passed him on our way to the falls.  What’s the chance of something like that happening?   I guess a better chance than seeing Niagara frozen.

fact finding mission

Hey Gang
I am off on a fact finding mission... Does Niagara Falls freeze?  I researched it online and most say no way but I remember as a kid back in the mid 70's my parents took us up there and yes we have the photos taken that day to prove the falls do indeed freeze over.

So I am off to take more recent pictures figuring with this Artic blast the falls have to be in a state of frozen-ness. Who knows maybe I can debunk global warming once and for all.

The weather forecast calls for white out conditions and cold.  But then again, you can't see the Falls frozen over if its warm. If by chance roads get closed well we will find a nice restaurant and a local mall and talk about the expedition Frozen Falls that got snow balled.

I will post photos on my blog on the return.

last week at this time.....

 Hey Gang,

Last week at this time we were huddle indoors watching the weather plummet, this week what a difference.  Good thing the cold snap wasn't during my winter cookout, I may of had to cancel it.

It was so cold last week….

The minus 10 outside equaled Obama’s approval rating.

Frosty the Snowman got frostbite.

I slept in the fridge to stay warm.

Al Gore came out of hiding to declare – ICE AGE!

The blood bank was taking blood with ice picks.

I found a snowman in my shower.

The other photo is of Georgio’s pizza in Euckid, their windows and door were completely iced up.

3 interesting connections

Hey Gang,

I was in Jefferson attending their Christmas parade.  I struck up a conversation with a gentleman in the crowd.  He told me of a new local restaurant that isn’t open yet but is having an open house with free coffee and hot chocolate.  So after the parade I went.  I spoke with the owner who is very involved with politic and gave him information on the Constitution Party.    A few days later a man calls wanting to know how to get involved with the Constitution Party.  I asked him where he was from and he said Jefferson.  I asked did you know the owner of the restaurant and did he give you my contact info?  He answered no I went online.  I said that’s perfect I want to meet with the owner of the restaurant in Jefferson so just meet me there.

I opened a booth in the Painesville Antique Co-Op.  Joe my partner and I were working.  He came up to me and said your neighbor is here and just bought something from you.  The weird connection is this - the co-op has over 100 dealers, the booths are unmarked and we are not allowed to stay in our booths, we have to walk around assisting customers.  My neighbor is not too fond of me and of all the booths in the antique store he picked out something from mine.

I called Jeff to tell him about a political rally being held on Feb. 1 in the town of Mt. Vernon, Ohio.  I live about 110 miles from Mt. Vernon and Jeff living in Delphos is about the same distance away from it.  I asked if he could meet me in Mt. Vernon that day.  He said sure, my stepson’s girlfriend lives there we can drive him to see her and then meet with you.  I said your stepson has a girlfriend who lives in Mt. Vernon?  Jeff said yes they met online a few months ago.
